Advances in technology and the digital era have brought many changes in various activities and professions. A professional programmer who works with software, of course knows what coding is. However, currently coding is not only limited to programmers, because ordinary people and even children can learn it.
What Is Coding?
When reading an article from the internet using a computer device such as a PC or laptop, right-click on the web browser and you will find the option 'view page source'. If you browse through it, you will see a bunch of code. That is what is called a computer language, or the codes used so that the computer can execute commands.
For those who do not know what coding is, it is an activity carried out by programmers to regulate the course of the software, according to the desired command. In other words, programmers code to develop software, so that it can be used for various technical needs.
It can be concluded that coding is a communication activity between the programmer and the computer, so that the device will understand and run what it wants. The code or programming language is likened to everyday language if you are talking to ordinary people.
Purpose of Codes in Software
Implementing coding in software, meaning that programmers use and write code or scripts with programming languages, which of course are different from Latin which is usually used to speak. The language used in this case is a language that the computer can understand, so the device can execute commands.
During the coding process, there are syntax rules that apply, and they vary for each software and device. For example, there will be different coding for the Android system which is usually used for gadgets, with scripting languages for computer programs on a laptop or PC. It all depends on which language will be used on each of these devices.
It can be concluded that coding is a communication activity between the programmer and the computer, so that the device will understand and run what it wants. The code or programming language is likened to everyday language if you are talking to ordinary people.
As with everyday language, there is also 'grammar' in coding languages known as syntax. This syntax rule must also be met by the programmer so that the language can be understood and commands can be executed. If there is an error, for example writing lowercase letters with uppercase letters, then the computer will not understand the command and an error code will occur.
Knowing Programming Languages
If you want to start learning coding, there are stages that must be understood at the beginning, namely about programming languages. It was said earlier that programming languages depend on individual needs, because each device will have different programming language characteristics.
For example, a programmer who wants to build a program for Android-based devices, then the programmer will usually use Java or Kotlin. Of course both are familiar and often heard when using a smartphone with Android OS. But it's different if you want to learn to build programs for computers.
Most of the time, the computer will use PHP, or some Javascript. The choice of programming language is again adjusted to the needs of building the program. There are lots of other popular programming languages besides PHP or Java, namely: Python, Ruby, C++, or Swift.
These programming languages have different characteristics and syntax rules. Thus, for those who want to learn programming, they must make sure at the beginning the goals of learning programming, in addition to understanding what coding itself is.
After knowing and understanding well what coding is, and also various types of programming languages. Learning to code is now very easy to find. Not a few training institutions that offer coding courses, even for children.
